What is an online database? Actually this is my second time I heard about it and before this I did not use online database as a references to my assignment. According to my lecturer, a database is a structured collection of information organized in a way that makes us easy to retrieve information. So, for this week tutorial activities, I have been asked to do a research on the ‘Application of using blog in Language Learning’ using the online database such as EBSCOhost, NovaCat, ERIC, ProQuest, PsycINFO and so on.
For the first time I take it into account to use this, I feel it easy as I can search the information through the specific field. Though the server is a little bit slow at that time because my entire classmate doing the same thing, but I’m managed to get three article from three different sources in order to complete the task given.
I have gained the first journal from the Emerald databases. The title of the journal is “Campus- Wide Information Systems” in Volume 22, Number 3 on 2005 at page 154-161 which contain an article that related to the applications of using blog in language learning. The article title’s is ‘Assumption about Participating in Teacher Education Through the use of ICT’. The purpose of these articles is to discuss the different understanding of participation in an information and communication technology based on teacher education program in Sweden. These research papers also explain about the methodology that they have used in order to gain the information. The methodologies they have used are through;Interpretations within the tradition of philosophical hermeneutics; The interpretational framework and The empirical framework. The result of this paper is based on interview which involved a group of teacher and trainees also by using questionnaire. From the studies that has been done, the findings indicate that there is a need to be explicit about the ontological assumptions inherent in the intended use of ICT. The conclusion about this paper is that the program in question is built on assumptions of realism and that ICT lays the ground for individual participation and works to tell the students apart. However the most important thing about this paper is to help in understanding the use of ICT also indicate the different effect on different groups.
Besides the article that I have gained from Emerald online databases, I also used Gema Online Journal of Languages Studies, Volume 7 which publishes in 2007. This paper is all about the investigation and to understand how computers used are organized in a school situation that is totally dependent on the syllabus. This research paper has been done through classroom observations, field notes, interviews and written documents also computer based activities and non computer based activities. All the result are recorded and analyzed. It also explains about the ICT in the Malaysian Education System and English Language Teaching in Malaysia. As a conclusion for this study, its state that there are benefits and opportunities for students to use computer-based learning environment. However, the learning benefits the students received from using computer-based activities are depending on many related factors that need to be studied.
The last article that related to the applications of blog in language learning I’ve gained from the Wilson Web from the Education Full Text database. The title of the article is “The evolution of ICT-based learning environments: which perspectives for the school of the future?”, it is origin from the British Journal of Educational Technology, Volume 35, no5, 553-67 which publish at 2004. This paper briefly outlines about the evolution of ICT based on learning environment and discussing some of the main aspect that have characterized such evolution. The objective is to point out how the implementation of innovative learning environments, based on advanced technology, is the result of the strict interrelation between educational and cognitive theories, technological opportunities and teaching and learning needs. It is also related to the analyzing how the use of ICT and to identifying current perspective and future trends in the design and use of advanced ICT based learning system by using three model as a staring point for eliciting ideas about crucial issues in ICT based on learning system. To sum up of this paper, it states that ICT tools can influence and transform learning by fundamentally changing the way in which content can be taught and learnt also assumption that learning processes cannot be fully understood if only the individual learner is considered without taking into account the relationships that are established between teachers and students and the role played by mediating tools.
In conclusions, I feel that search information via online databases is interesting and very useful especially for students to get more information regarding their studies.

Blog
A blog is a web page that serves as a publicly accessible personal diary or journal as an individual. Writing blog is a good way for me to express my feelings and thought. Though this is my first time using blog, I found it is so interesting and I enjoy doing it. I use this blog as a medium to share my dreams, ideas even my fear with friends without worried about others will correct my mistake on the spot. By using blog, I feel save to express my feeling even my story via blog.
Besides of my first experience using blog, it also has the advantages that are very beneficial to us. Writing blog has brought interest for students to write. Students will feel excited about writing and this will improve their writing skill when they write everyday about their story and posting it in the blog. This is because, here they will not criticize on the spot and they can write freely without fear of others comment. In addition, it is so easy by using blog. From the educational aspect, student can change their opinion and sharing ideas with their peers by participate in the e-forum and join e-mail discussion groups. By join using blog, we also can make new friends with people around the world. Here also we can share our culture together about each country to enrich our common knowledge.
However, instead of advantage that we gain from blogging, there are also disadvantages of them. Blogging can be dangerous if someone posting, discuss or comment about something sensitive because blog is a kind of open journal which is everyone can see and read about it freely without any restrictions. Everything that we write and comment sometimes can be an issue without we realize it. So, we should beware of it. People, mostly teenagers like to put bad images or layout to their blog which is not a good thing for us as a student. So, we should behave because whatever we do will reflect what other people see.
Furthermore, the applications of blog do give a lot of benefits to me. When I’m using blog, it really reflect to my language and writing skill and give a lot of improvement in my study as I’m major in English study courses. I can improve my writing via the comments that I get from the others to my writing. Though I’m a bit scared to see my writing in the web but I try to think positive that no one will say ‘NO’, you are wrong here and there because I know that I always right here. In short, it helps me to gain and increases my confidence level in expressing my own personal view on something. Besides, blogging also help me to become more creative to create something nice at my blog such as putting songs, pictures and other images to make my blog become interesting to serve.
As a conclusion, I hope that I will use it even after I finished these courses later. Thanks to my lecturer for introduce kind of enjoyable thing to me, I really appreciate it. What we have learned, what we view will change what we have views!

SECOND POSTING : CONCORDANCE ANALYSIS
Traditional grammar classifies words based on eight parts of speech which are verbs, noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection. Based on this, my group which consists of me, Farhana, Monall and Syafawani has analyzed the lecture slides on Concordance about the used of article 'a' and the preposition word 'about'.
Article 'a' always occurs after preposition, verb, and noun words.
Examples :
1. with a darkness that might be felt (preposition) (shows what is the thing (an abstract noun; darkness) that has being the object of the sentence)
2. We found a paper of the directions after his death. (Verb) (Found expresses the action of the noun we)
3. Just at this moment a dog bark. (noun) (moment is an abstract thing that follows a demonstrative pronoun this)
We can make a conclusion that the article 'a' that occurs after the preposition, verb, and noun is used to determine name of thing, person, or place that involved in the story/ phrase/ sentence.
Article 'a' normally occurs before noun, adjective and adverb.
Examples:
1. a minute before (noun) = its states the time (an abstract thing)
2. a good opinion of Gregory (adjective) (good is describing the attribution of the opinion)
3. a pretty quick pace (adverb) (pretty shows manner of the quick; it is a kind of adverbial)
Function of the article 'a' when it occurs after a noun, adjective and adverb is shows the plurality of the noun that occur after each of the form stated. The coordinator 'about' always occurs after noun, verb, and adverb.
For examples:
1. to guide herself about the house (noun)
2. did not often think about him (verb)
3. but only about four by the fells (adverb)
In this context, 'about' is functioning as a connector of the extra information of the topic (normally a verb) with the main topic. In other word, it connects the main clause with the subordinate clause.'about' always occur before preposition, determiner and a pronoun.
Examples:
1. about in wild alarm (preposition)
2. about him (pronoun)
3. about the farm (determiner)
Another function of ‘about’ in a sentence is to connect a clause to another clause; which means connect either a main clause at the beginning and the subordinate clause at the end or the opposite. Thus, from the examples given we can conclude that about is used before a noun phrase or clause only.
In someways, 'about' is used as a phrase with the 'partner'.
For examples:
1. move about = moving but not far from the base
2. running about = running in a certain area only
My group also has summarized the article on "BEYOND CONCORDANCE LINES: USING CONCORDANCE TO INVESTIGATE LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT" that written by Arshad Abdul Samad, Universiti Putra Malaysia.
From the article that we have analyzed, we found that the concordance offers a useful resource in language pedagogy. Concordance has commonly been used as the basis of dictionary and teaching materials (Woolard,2000). These software help in tedious task of analyzing language data and greatly extend the potential of corpus language pedagogy. Corpora also often help to inform how many words and grammatical constructions are used as teachers, researches and even language learners typically examine concordance line to discover them. According to Schmit (2000:34), he argues that among the benefit of using corpus in language teaching and learning is that it may help student to enjoy the systematic of a language. But in Malaysia, its use is limited and is buy-and-large unavailable.

My First Posting
THE DIFFERENCES AND SIMILARITIES OF SMS, CHAT AND EMAIL LANGUAGE
Sms (Short messaging Service) , email and chat is kind of service that is used by almost all people in this world to communicate each other. This service is mostly popular among teenagers and adult. Sms, email and chat has become apart of their life. They are all used all this service to make them easier to communicate with other people not just in our country but also people from around the world. However, there are a certain parts of them which have the differences and similarities in terms of their language.
In terms of differences among them is about the formality of the language using. As in the email language, I found that the language is much more formal compared to sms and hat language since sms and chat only used our daily spoken language to communicate and it is informal language. While in the email, we can attach file that is important and contain a formal language to send to other people. The other feature that might be different among them is in terms of the length of the language. We can see that the sms, and chat language is shorter than email language. This is because of the limited space that has provided in chat and sms. Beside that, email language that is used in email language is tending to speech or writing make different with chat and sms. Chat and sms used kind of dialogue to communicate each other since they are synchronous while which occur in the real time unlike the email which is asynchronous.
The similarities among them are about the language. Mostly when we sms, email or chat, we will found that most of them used a mixed of languages and sometimes have a code switching from a language to the other language. For example, they tend to used Malay language and then suddenly switch it to English language and vice versa. The other similarity that we will found in the sms, email and chat language is in terms of short forms that they are using. Most people used a lot of short forms during they wrote a sms, email or chat with other people. Generally, the user of them is teenagers, so that they tend to write faster and it’s easier for them to write it in short form. Also they tend to create new words that sometimes it’s hard to understand by other people. The other aspect that makes them similar each other is in terms of grammar which is peoples that used this kind of communications sometimes are not really care with grammar that they used. We can find the grammatical mistakes that they write in their language. For me, this is because some of the user is not really use with grammar and always used their spoken language daily. Beside, they always write faster and sometimes do not notice about the mistake that they have done.
As a conclusions, whatever the differences and similarities among them, we should not misused of our language but used it properly in our life in whatever things that we do...
